At a recent training session that I did at out local shopping center food court, a student commented that he often discovers thing on his mobile phone but does not remember how he got to to where he made the discovery. This is not an isolated thing. I often do it myself. Move from one function to another, to another and so on and then find some information or a way of doing somthing or a new or easier way of doing somthing. But how did I get here. I forgot. No mater how many different ways I go back and try and find/repeat it I cant.
Although more prone to seniors this is a common problem with anyone learning to use a mobile phone or any new technology. But ther is a way around it.
All modern mobile phones have a built in video camera. Many people have multiple mobile phones. And even those that dont, may have somone else in ther family that has a mobile phone. This is what you can do.
Before trying things out with your phone, use another phone to start a video recording. Record the screen of the phone with the second phone whilst saying what you are doing, as videos also record sound and it may be helpful to later hear you saying what you are doing to know what you are doing. See and hearing can be better than seeing only.
Now if you find something new or another way of doing something but dont remember how you got to that point you can stop the recording and play it back and see precisely how you got there. If you dont find anything new you can stop the recording and delete it.
Even if you dont have access to a second phone you can still record what is happening on your phones screen with a screen recording app that you get from the google play store. One such app in AZ screen recorder. When you start it, it puts a small floating icon on all screens which when touched brings up a half circular menu of which one of the items is the function to start a recording. From that point on all that happens on your phones screen is recorded and can be played back just as any other video recording.
Even if you do remember how to do somthing on a phone or even on a computer, that does not mean you will always be able to remember it. Especially if it somthing you do not do often. Thats where making a video of how to do somthing to your future self can be a help. And you can carrying it around with you all the time in your phone, in case you do forget. This does not only apply to phone and technology. You can use it to help remember anything. And you dont have to write anything
Mobile phone storage is relatively very inexpensive and it is becoming even less expensive. I recently purchased a 16 GB micro SD card, that you can use to extend android phones storage, for $6. A minute and a half phone video could only take up 100 Mb so that about 160 such videos could be stored on that 16 GB SD card.

I went looking for videos on all of the above and could not find any at the level of complete beginners. Perhaps these items are considered to simple to have a need to show how to do them.
In any case I made my own videos. Thats what shown in the links above
