Got a scan call few minutes ago. Straight off I nu it was a scam cuz some kids were yelling in the background before anyone spoke. It appears, perhaps, scammers have to work from home now.
Guy with a very strong foreign accent asks me if I ever get calls from people trying to sell me something. I said yes and was about to say, is that what youre doing? But before I had a chance to, he went on with his speel saying that he could provide a service so I no longer got those calls. This was a new type of scam I hadnt seen before. But after the call I looked it up and found this:
https://www.donotcall.gov.au/consumer-alerts/watch-out-for-do-not-call-register-fee-scam/
So it appears it's been going on for some time.
Next, me asks me for the expiry date of my credit card. I made up something and gave it to him.
Then ask me numerous times for the registration number. Didn't know what he was talking about. Turned out he was after the card number.
So I asked him to give me his card number. Which he did. I then asked for his expiry date. He gave me that to.
I then asked for the 3 digit code that was on the other side of the card. He gave me that as well. I get the impression it was all just false.
I then told him, a fool and his money are soon parted. Apparently he did not hear what I said and I had to repeat it multiple times, breaking it up one word at a time.
He kept on saying, you fool. I had to tell him no, a fool.
I think he eventually got what I was trying to say. He then said, you motherF…er and hung up. I dont no why as I was not directing my remarked to him.
Another scam method to be aware of.
