I see on the latest neighbourhood watch newsletter that because of videos shared on social media, showing dangerous driving behaviour. Leeanne Enoch has written to the minister of transport, requesting that red light cameras be installed on Johnson road,
According to this website
https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/safety/fines/speed/location
“Evaluations of the Camera Detected Offence Programs have found that combining red light cameras with speed cameras is more effective at reducing road trauma than red light cameras alone. As a result of these findings, all new red-light cameras are combined with speed cameras”
Which means that if any red light cameras are installed on Johnson road they will also be speed cameras and so will operate 24 hours a day 365 days a year.
Even though studies have proven that red light and speed cameras can reduce accidents WHERE THEY ARE SITUATED, recent statistics show that OVERALL, they do not reduce accidents.
Considering that, which of the 5 sets of lights between beaudesert road and Stapleton road should a red light and speed camera be placed?
Our preferences would be irrelevant because of the criteria described in the above link.
However I am very confident in saying that if a camera was put at any of the set of lights, that ther will be people in Forestdale, that will be detected speeding on Johnson Rd who have never been and very likely will never be involved in an accident.
But it is very likely that the dangerous driving behaviour, of some drivers, that is of concern to some residents of Forestdale, will continue at the sets of lights that do not have a red light camera, on Johnson road
I said about the council installed cameras, that have not stopped crime in Forestdale, that residents should be careful for what they ask for.
The same applies to red light cameras.
Red Light Cameras - Johnson Road
During the recent Forestdale NHW meeting the NHW team and other residents highlighted videos shared on social media showing dangerous driving behaviour. These videos appear to show motorists undertaking dangerous driving behaviour and breaching road rules.
As a result, I have formally written to the Transport and Main Roads Minister requesting funding be allocated to install red light cameras on Johnson Road.
Installing cameras would act as a powerful enforcement tool, encouraging drivers to obey traffic signals and reducing the Likelihood of crashes, injuries, and fatalities in the area.
I will continue to keep the community informed on these important measures.
