Logan Motorway Upgrade2

Unless you look very hard you won't find this:

“However, the Queensland Government and Transurban are pursuing funding options that have no toll increases associated with the upgrade project for all vehicles except trucks”

This is the same way that previous upgrades were made to the Logan motorway.

So it won't cost us?

Wrong

Trucks transport good that most of us have to purchase. Trucking business pass on the increase in tolls to ther customers, who, in turn, pass on ther increase to all us consumers. Therefore we ALL are indirect paying for the upgrade of the Logan motorway.

However all business try to make a profit. Part of your increase in prices of most of the items you purchase is that profit.

You might sorry that's just normal commercial practice. Well not quite in two respects.

First, in the past, before tolls, governments taxed people and the taxes were used to pay for the construction of roads. Governments don't make profit.

Secondly in the past when governments did get businesses to construct roads, it was done on a tender basis. Businesses had to compete.

In the case of a Logan motorway there is no competition. The Queensland government gave Transurban a Monopoly on the construction of the upgrade of the Logan motorway. You are not only paying for profits you are also paying for monopolistic profits everytime you purchased anything that gets transported via the Logan motorway.

Dont take my word for to his, check it out for yourself. Perhaps ask your local state member.

I see that the upgrade is “expected” to reduce local traffic by 6,000 vehicles a day in 2031. I wonder what portion that is of Johnson road.
