LACOTA Broadband For Seniors (BFS) Tutors

The Logan Area Committee on the Ageing (LACOTA) delivers technology courses to seniors within Logan. Courses cover use of, and programs within, computers/pads plus mobile phones and digital cameras.

As part of this program LACOTA joined the Broadband For Seniors (BFS) program. See http://www.necseniors.net.au/

One of the concepts of this program is that once senior people have learnt how to use computers and technology they then can pass on those skills and ability to other senior people.

LACOTA have two computers that has specifically been provided by the Federal Government for this purpose.

How can you Help

If you know how to use a computer, you can come to our centre and help other senior people learn to use a computer.

You do NOT have to be a computer expert to do this. You only need to know how to use a computer. All the training material will be provided. See http://www.necseniors.net.au/training-resources/training-documents/

This training is typically done with one trainer to one student. This is a very effective way of training for absolute beginners.

In some cases we need people to teach real simple things, like how to use the mouse or how to use the start menu. And in other situations it could be that you just are in the training room whilst students practise skills they have already learnt.

Rewards

You get to talk to many people and to assist them with their needs. Free access to LACOTA training courses. You will also have the ability to participate in you own professional development. See http://www.necseniors.net.au/volunteer-tutors/professional-development/

A great Christmas lunch provided by LACOTA at the end of the year
