This is en example of what happens with a camera set to fully automatic and automatic flash.
As that is enough light coming is from the window the flash does not go off but the people in the photo block off the light such that they show in silhouette
However when the forced flash is on the flash is forced to go off and it fills in where previously their was no or little light so eliminating the silhouette effect
