Im writting this, is responce to this:
“I have been made aware that recent unrest in the Forestdale community now has the attention of higher ups in the Browns Plains Police. As you know that it is now a police matter and that something is being done. The police concern extends beyond trespassing to vigilante type behaviour of adults, and the aggressive activity on this Facebook page. This has become a very serious issue, as a result we are asking this community nicely to let this topic go. Comments will be turned off for previous posts on this topic. At this point admins can not allow activity that possibly makes this situation worse.
If you have been broken into- report the incident to police.
If you see someone acting suspicious, report it to police.
If you are concerned about someone's welfare offer help and report it to police.
Please, please report any inappropriate posts to admin.”
As the Facebook group concerned is moderated and has rules, I fully accept that the administrators have the right to censor material.
However I question the logic of some of the apparent reasons given to justify it.
Most of the material that was written on the above is hearsay, double and multiple hearsay that may not be allowed as evidence in a legal case.
Unfortunately some may not realise the difference between actual evidence and hearsay evidence, and so believe everything they read. But without reading anything contradicting what they are reading, they may never know that the information that's been given to them is possibly false or misleading.
Vigilantism can often be associated with a lack of information and understanding on behalf of those making the decision to engage in vigilante type behaviour. Censoring information is not going to solve that problem. It could make it worse.
Information is power. Perhaps that should be, good information is power. Anything is possible. So it is therefore possible that providing more, good, information could make the situation better
The assumption seems to be, that by “let this topic go” things will get better. That's not a logical argument.
Note the word “good”. Vigilantism is not good.
I was very concerned about the welfare of the people that were becoming extremely angry.
So I produced this:
Based on this:
I offered to help.
But it appears to have been taken down from the Forestdale community Facebook page.
Although I can't really tell 100% because Facebook itself does not necessarily show you all your posts.
It would appear that even admins cannot undelete a deleted Post.
Bottom line is don't write anything on Facebook you want to keep.
That's why I write most of my material on my own website. That way I fully control it.
Just as another aside. Having developed many computer systems.i no that deleted information usually still exists. It's just that the typical end user has no access to it. So don't ever think you are protected if a post is deleted.
