Facebook Android Web Version Issues

Am I the only one

Am I the only one that users the web version of Facebook on an Android phone? I ask because I'm having a multitude of problems with it, that I'm sure other people wouldn't put up with.

I want to EMPHASISE that I use Facebook only on a phone and I am NOT using the Facebook app. I use my web browser, Firefox, to access the Facebook website.

The issues

  1. If I go to another tab on the browser when I return to the original tab the page is refreshed and I have an extreme amount of trouble getting back to were I originally was.
  2. if I was writing a post in the above situation all the text would be lost
  3. often I cannot see we're im typing
  4. text appears wider than the width of the screen regardless of portrait of landscape mode I can not pinch zooming to see parts off the screen
  5. Unable to read the bottom of some posts because it has a section where Im supposed to write comments
  6. the inability to select, so copy and paste text
  7. a message coming up saying, “We're Sorry We had a problem with the page you tried to reach. We hope to have it fixed soon. You will be directed to the home page” sometimes when repling to a post
  8. the inability to post more than about 2,000 characters of text into a post even though Facebook say I should be able to do so for over 10,000 characters
  9. The inability to be able to copy images
  10. unable to slide scroll when writing text to see what I have written above or below the current position

When I first started using Facebook on my Android phone a lot of these inabilities did not exist. As Facebook have progressley updated ther Android web interface these issues have evolved.

Why I don't use the Facebook App

Because:

  1. I do not want to get notifications. The web version does not give me notifications.
  2. I roughly no when I go away from a Facebook page on the web version, nothing else is ticking over on my phone. I don't know what the app version would be doing.
  3. I can have multiple tabs open at the one time of multiple Facebook pages with the web version. I don't think I could do that with the app version?
  4. from what I have read the web version is the lastest to be updated by Facebook, which means I less likely to be effected by the Facebook methods to keep me on their web pages
  5. I like to be in control of my devices, not my devices controlling me
  6. having worked as a computer program for most of my career I found it appalling that such software has so many bugs in it. If it's out there to be used if should work properly. Otherwise remove it completely

I appreciate what Facebook are about

I appreciate with Facebook and a lot of the modern information technology systems that I am the product that they are selling to other people.

To that extent they want to keep me looking at ther website for as long as possible and that's why they set their algorithm up to entice me to go to and stay on their website.

I appreciate that is not unique to Facebook as other social media and internet platforms do the same thing.

They most likely learnt all this from the TV channels, who have had decades of experiences of keeping people watching their programs.

I also appreciate that Facebook are a private company and are working for the benefit of their shareholders, not for my benefit.

Why I use Facebook

Because I'm basically forced to. If I don't use it I miss out on information about my family and what's going on in my local community. I don't want to miss out.

Face book evil

Facebook of become so big and so powerful that they can deliberately make people sad. As shown here
