Making Wooden Tripods

I made one at the mens shed because the one we use at home belongs to Kristi, our daughter.

Although Ive been told it will be cheaper to buy 1, I wanted to prove that I could make something, that complicated.

I started by looking on YouTube and found all the videos below.

But then I just started making one without referring to the videos. I basically based it on the one we have at home. I forgot about the videos until I decided to put the photos of the one I made on my web site and discovered that I had already made whats at the bottom of this page.

What I ended up making

Here it is:

What I would like to make in the future

This one I have made is to big and bulky. I want to make one that is smaller and folds up to something smaller. So has 3 extensions like Kristi's one. Unfortunately its not easy to make timber that fits inside other timber. The next best thing would be the Dowell legs one in the video below. But would be very time consuming. The next best would be a dovetail legs as in the link below. Also a better way of doing the vertical pivot as in the one of the videos below.

Also found a video that shows a very easy way to make a ball and socket joint (below). I could do something like it to make a ball head tripod head.

Another video (below) shows how to make a small table top tripod.
