Road Safety

This publication RACQ details road safety roundtable recommendations is about recomdations to the, I assume, Queensland Government.

The RACQ and all other motoring bodies are the last people that governments should be listening to in relation to road safety. Motoring bodies are more likely to be interested in increasing ther number of members, than they are in road safety. They want so it so it easier for people to get a driving licence, hence the possibility of them having moore members, when it should be more difficult to get a car licence by using the skill levels required

This is reflected in the recomdations they are making. Non of which are making it more difficult to obtain a car licence. The more people that have a licence to more people a likely to join a motoring organisation.

More Police

The report states:“We need more highly visible police on our roads immediately, and it has to be targeted through blitz campaigns in regions like central and far north Queensland,….”

Time and time again police blitz campaigns have not worked in reducing the road toll. The only argument that could be put, which is not necessarily logical, is that the road toll would be worse if the campaims did not take place.

Taking this recommendation to its logical conclusion would mean a police presence everywhere. Which is impossible. If also assumes that drivers will infringe laws unless they see a law inforcement presence. This is incorrect.

Ther are many road rules that are illogical.
