Internet and Email on Other than a PC - Webinar preparation Material

Introduction

In such a short time, the Internet and email have been such an important part of our lives. We have been accustomed to easily connecting to the world with the touch of a fingertip. Mobile devices and tablets are pushing the boundaries even further and are expected to be overtake PC's as the devices that will be most used to access the internet. Amongst other terrific features, tablets and mobile devices allow you to browse the Web and access your email wirelessly. In our next session, we will look at non PC devices (android/Apple Etc.). We will show you how to set-up your email, access the Internet and download apps.

Our presenter Geoff will:

  1. - Briefly explain the differences between PC's, Laptops, Tablets and Phones
  2. - Discuss the relative advantages and disadvantages of using the internet on a PC/Laptop, Tablet or Phone
  3. - Show how the internet appears on a tablet
  4. - Show you how to set up an Android devise to access your email
  5. - Briefly show and discuss how to download Apps to a non PC devise (Tablet or Phone) connected to the internet

3.9 Billion radios

5.2 Billion total mobile phone subscriptions

and only 4.2 billion people use a tooth brush

At the end of 2011 their where 6 Billion Mobile subscriptions

Equivalent to 87% of the worlds population

A huge increase from the 5.2 Billion in 2010 and 4.7 Billion in 2009

IDC (February 2012): 1,546 million handsets were sold in 2011, up 11.1 percent compared with 2010.

31% of mobile handsets sold in 2011 where SmartPhones

The differentiations between devices tends to be marketing rather than technological

The saying “You get what you pay for” does not apply in computing

Because of technological concepts such as “Cloud Computing” some of the Differences between PC's Laptops, Tablets and Phones may not apply

ie The result of a particular function on low powered device such as a pad or a phone may appear faster than otherwise on a very fast PC. eg's Voice recognition and rendered images
