Facebook's mission statement

What it was in 2017: “making the world more open and connected”

What it is in 2018:“To give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.”

But the reality is like any corporation it's to make as much money as possible, over a long period of time.

How does Facebook work

“Facebook frequently changes its algorithm so what you see on this page can vary,….”

Like all non open source software that's done by corporations the exact way Facebook works is unknown to the end users. And even if it does become approximately know it can change in the future.

What I find frustrating about using Facebook is that if you go to a particular part of it and then you navigate to somewhere else when you come back to the original part it's no longer there. Which is the exact opposite to the way that most web pages work and the world wide web was design to work.

Or to put it more succinctly, Facebook manipulates it's end users for its own agenda.

Tagging

What about taging old group school photos? It is legal, but is it morally right? Those being tagged may not even be on Facebook, so would not have the ability to untag themselves. For those on Facebook unless you are friended you can't communicate with them to seek ther permission to tag them. Catch 22.

Having the ability to untag yourself can be to late as the information has already been revealed and could have been copied and pasted elsewhere, only to popup on another post or anywhere else on the internet. Once on the internet information is always on the internet.

The French tried to legislate a right to be forgotten but it did not work because the internet works beyond country boarders.
