EV Fast Charging

I find in intriguing that fast charging is such an issue when the average car is only used 5% of all time meaning that 95% of a cars time is available for charging.

Why do we want EVs to charge fast, because we have had ICE cars for over 100 years and they charge, relatively fast. Or in other words, we want it because we have always done it that way. Completely ignoring that it is almost completely unnecessary.
