So let's set in place the existing situation where the cost of coal produced electric is more expensive than renewables? Why? Because those that produce the more expensive electricity can make more profit out of it.
And then, some want to build more coal powered power stations that, because of higher build costs, must result in ther price of electricity being higher. Compared that to the prices of solor and wind equipment costs of solor panels and wind turbines, going down, resulting in lower cost of electricity via those methods.
Then consider, the sun and wind compared to coal:
Do not have to have the overfill cleared away. Do not have to be dug up Do not have to be moved to a furnace Do not have to light a furnace Do not have to be burnt Do not require water Do not require water to be heated to create steam Do not have to move the steam to a turbine In the case of solor don't even need a turbine Do not have to run through cooling towers Most importantly do not create any emissions. Do not have to rehabilitate the land Do not end up with giant holes in the ground Do not cause health problems
All the costs of the above, do not happen with wind and solar.
But if you are a electricity producer, wholesale, retailer or investor you can make more profits by selling electricity that's more expensive to be produced. Which one are you?
